Hiroshima-Platz Potsdam e.V.About usThe atomic bombing of the Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, was one of the most crucial acts at the end of the Second World War, and one of which also greatly influenced the period after the war.The President of the United States of America, Harry S. Truman, resided in a villa in the Potsdam district Babelsberg at the time of the Potsdam Conference. In all likelihood the order to drop atomic bombs could have been issued from the villa. From this historical point of view, the citizens in Potsdam initiated to name the place opposite the villa as ?Hiroshima-Platzg and the city parliament Potsdam decided it on Dec. 2005. In order to build a memorial at Hiroshima-Platz in Potsdam, the Citizens' Initiative ?Hiroshima-Platz Potsdam e.V.g was founded and the fund action was started. This memorial shall serve to keep the memory of the victims of Nagasaki and Hiroshima alive. The main goal of the initiative shall be to plan the memorial, to solicit donations, to complete and to maintain this site. Our supporters are: • International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) Germany • Green Parties Potsdam • SPD Babelsberg • Mayor of Hiroshima, Mr. Akiba • Mayor of Potsdam, City Potsdam → to the top Copyright 2006 - 2010©, Hiroshima-Platz Potsdam e.V.
